Question:

Is this sub and amp set up right?

Hey everyone, i have a vibe mono amplifier which is:

650RMS @ 2 ohm.

1200RMS @ 1 ohm.

I want to get 2 x Alpine SWR-1242D 1500W subwoofers. They're 500Rms rated. Which i think with 2 of them bridged, i should be able to get 1200 rms going to them at 1 ohm (somehow), and overpowering them by a bit should be ok.

But i've noticed you can get this sub in two set ups?? which is either dual 4 ohm, or dual 2 ohm. Now which setup would be better?

I also understand that a bridge divides the power into 2, but increases it at the same time because of the ohms load changing. If the subs are dual 4 ohm each, will they act as 2ohm when bridged? and will two dual 2 ohm subs act as 1ohm if i were to get these instead? Or do they both work differently?

I basically want to get the best performing subs for my amp, would you think i need 2ohm or 4ohm dvc subs?

Many thanks everyone

  1. I go with the dual 4 and bridge them to a 2 ohm load. That will be just fine. Besides, it is alot easier to find an amp that will push 2ohms insted of 1. Look at Boston Acustic for amps. I swear by them.

  2. i would also say the dual 4 ohm model, its is easier to find a 2 ohm amp cheaper and with less power than a 1ohm amp.  two type r's,id go with this amp

run both subs to the one channel, all good

  3. 2 dvc 4 ohm subs because they can be wired down to 1 ohm giving them 1200 watts rms.
