  1. Actually depending upon the shape it may be too small for you.  You want something wide, for more stability.  Shortboards (boards that are shaped kind of like a tear drop) are designed for performance.  They are fast, unstable and harder to learn on  You want something shaped more like a stretched out egg or a fat fish (wide with a large split in the tail).  If it is shaped like a short board it will be hard to learn on, if is a funshape, fish or egg it would probably be pretty good.

  2. I suggest if it's you're first time surfing, to get a soft surf board. They're great for beginners and run at about $150-$200.  They're not made of fiberglass and hard fins, so you won't get hurt if you land on the board when you fall. When learning, I'd start on either a longboard (8ft or above) or on that's about 6ft. You're still growing, so you'll most likely grow and need a bigger board.

If you live near the beach there are tons of surf camps that run during the summer, so check with your city to see when those are. They provide the surf boards, and instructors to teach you how to stand up, balance, and ride across the wave. Plus, during a surf camp, you get to try out a variety of boards, long and short, to see which board length is right for you.

  3. hmm it would help if you stated how experienced you were, if you are a beginner then you should definitely not get a shortboard, start with a softboard/longboard, move down to minimal, and then to shortboard, you'll regret it otherwise. if you are experienced, and you are small so i would get a 6' 2 max, needs to be around 3 inches taller than you.

  4. dont get a soft surf board unless you wanna look like a kook, get a 55-5'10

make it kind of thick and make surre you take off at an angle on your waves instead of goin straight at shore like an idiot, and dont cut people off
