My configuration is: 2 different ISP and a single webserver. I need to connect the server for redundance (outbound traffic) and wondering if this is the right solution.

  1. Well there are several good multi wan units available.

http://www.peplink.com/  has some good ones. Like this one

    http://www.peplink.com/products/balance-...

as do Cisco, Linksys and many others BUT with a single web server.. how do any of these balance your OUTBOUND traffic from that server?

If a request comes in on line one, it will reply, it has to. If it comes in on line two, it will reply, it has to, I finally realized this and went to a data center with redundant OC192's... it was much cheaper and much better than an in-house solution and they even monitor the servers status! That way the server is always online and 24x7 monitored and has true balanced redundancy.

  2. You'll need a routing protocol to balance outbound traffic, it's not a trivial thing to do, either is being dual homed. Your site will need as AS number and BGP configured between yourself and ISPs in order to do this right.
