Is this the 2008 basketball team better than the orginal dream team in 1992?

In talent and physical prowess?  It's hard to argue otherwise.  However, no team has ever had a collection of players who had that intangible "it" that makes winners like the 92 team.  Without Magic, Bird, and Jordan, the NBA may not have even been able to survive to breed the current crop of players! I say the Dream Team!

No, they're not even close.

Our big guys got into major foul trouble trying to contain Mark and Pao Gasol... what chance would they possibly have against David Robinson and Patrick Ewing?

Jordan and Magic are two of the three greatest guards ever.  John Stockton was the best pure point guard ever.   Bird was the best forward ever.  Karl Malone was one of the top two PFs ever, maybe the best of all time.

Pippen was one of the top 3 or 4 defensive forwards of all time.

Barkley, as noted earlier, was an absolute beast.

The 2008 team wouldn't have a matchup advantage at any position.  The 1992 team had 3 guards that were unquestionably better than anyone on the 2008 team.  The Dream Team centers were vastly superior to the 2008 edition

Lebron would be the only problem matchup, but he certainly can't beat the 92 team by himself.

Plus, the '92 team never lost their focus for a second out there.  This year's team should have beaten Spain by 50 or 60 points.  Guys like CP13 can't complete a 3 point play when he's fouled.  You have to pray for the team every time they launch a 3 pointer (Charles Barkley shot 88% from 3 point land in 1992).

This year's team has, at most, 3 first ballot HOFers right now (Kobe, Kidd and Lebron).  Guys like Melo, Paul and Boozer might make the HOF some day, but it's not gonna be on the first ballot...and anyone who thinks they are first ballot HOFers is an idiot.

The 1992 team had 9 or 10 first ballot HOFers.

The 1992 team would win 141- 85.

Another reason the 1992 team was superior was the fact that they didn't have to play together for THREE YEARS in order to do what they did. They simply got together after the 1992 NBA season, destroyed everyone in the "Tournament of the Americas", and then jetted over to Barcelona to mop the floor with the rest of the world.

It didn't take THREE YEARS of practice time for those guys to do what they did.  That's because they simply knew how to play basketball.   If you know how to play basketball, you don't have to practice together for three years in order to have a shot at a gold medal.

There's a reason that this year's team has had to practice together for three years in order to do what they're doing over there in China...it's because they're not as good as the originals. ..and not as smart.    If they had half of the basketball IQ of the 1992 team, they wouldn't have had to go through what they've gone through in order to be the gold medal favorites.

It's a shame we have to practice for 3  years in order to win a gold...but if that's what it takes for these guys to win, so be it. I'm just glad that they've been willing to put in the time...   But it's embarrassing.   They shouldn't have to do that.

The reason is the 1992 team had so many legends, not just all stars, but legendary hall or fame players, there will never be another dream team.

Larry Bird VS. Carmelo Anthony...Melo isn't even a PF, but they ran outa bodies

Charles Barkley VS. Tyson Chandler... Barkley is a beast

Talent-wise, yes. Basketball players are so much more athletic and skilled than they were in the 90s. However, there will be no other team who will have the same impact as the 1992 Dream Team. Both teams are playing with class though.

larry bird and magic both retired after the 1992 olympics. they were at the end of their careers. it is therefore misplaced to readily assume that this 12 man team ( with college player laeetner and mullin ) was an unbeatable team. not to say 2008 team can beat them. only that it could be closer than many think.

The 2008 team is talented, but no team ever assembled anywhere could beat the original 1992 Dream Team. The 1992 Dream team would win pretty easily even in today's olympics. These other countries are better now, but just look at this roster. Noone could ever beat this team with so many players in their prime..

Not even close. That team was flawless. They played the game as it should be played. They have mastered the fundamentals of the game. These guys now all rely on one-on-one moves. That's why they struggle to transition to International play because they are not used to sharing the ball. That team was so great in advancing the ball and sharing the ball.  They played the game effortlessly. And whoever they passed it to would make the shot. They hardly missed. Compare the players and the Dream Team's individual accomplishments were so impressive. Each and every one of them was a complete player.

IMO THE REDEEM TEAM IS BETTER SIMPLY BECAUSE THE 1992 DREAM TEAM ARE BEATING NOBODIES WHILE THE 2008 TEAM ARE ROUTING TEAM'S WITH NBA ALL STARS AND A FAR BETTER COMPETITION.
