Is this the beginning of an end for Pakistan Cricket?
Pakistan cricket has never been in more turmoil than seen today. The selectors have been facing a dilemma as to which players to select who would be able to perform for the national side in the international arena. Moreover, there is a major captaincy dilemma
as well, since the captain of the Pakistan cricket team more often than not has failed to deliver. While many cricket fans of Pakistan might be wondering if this is perhaps the end of Pakistan cricket, I for one, beg to differ.
Dry patches are faced by many cricket teams and it is not just limited to the Pakistan side, but has happened to many highly-ranked teams who have been termed as very strong competitors. The transition from senior players to young players is always difficult
and will always encompass many a problems. However, these problems must be given time to heal and things will not improve overnight. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 argument and the way he has governed the PCB carte blanche is part of the problem and not the solution. The pundits
sitting in the higher echelons of power do not understand the intricacies and responsibilities that are attached to the position of the head of the Pakistan cricket board. For PCB is not simply a state responsibility, but has the potential to become a major
industry in Pakistan.
First of all there need to be some major changes in the domestic structure itself which at the moment is not only vulnerable and lacks credibility but there is also a dearth of proper facilities which fail to polish the talent and potential of Pakistan cricketers.
Imran Khan was a visionary, for he not only won the World Cup for Pakistan but also ensured that he set up the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292, Waqar Younis and others. Even at that particular
moment in time, Pakistan did not have a proper domestic cricket structure.
If you plant a seed, you will not expect it to turn into a fully grown tree overnight. You have to nurture it, water it, tend for it and then after a span of good two and three years you will find the tree growing strong, strengthening itself. Such is the
case with Pakistan cricket. The solution to the woes of Pakistan cricket team lies in the domestic structure, which at the moment is part of the problem. The cricketers are underpaid which is a reason why many educated people now refrain from entering this
particular field or any sport for that matter.
Aisam-ul-Haq is a prime example of how it requires time, effort and hard work to achieve the heights of success. If it is expected of the Pakistan cricket team that they will start winning overnight, then the fans and the critics are sadly mistaken. As for
other teams, we have in front of us the glaring example of the Indian batting collapses during their tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 who have
not been able to recuperate completely from the effects of the retirement of many senior players like Shane Warne, Glenn Mcgrath, Matthew Hayden and Andrew Symonds. More importantly we have the example of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 who have been performing
poorly for the last many months.
The solution would be long term whether any of you like it or not, whether you accept it or not. The domestic cricket structure needs to be developed as Imran Khan has been saying for the last many years. If any of you wonders, what sort of changes the domestic
cricket structure needs, kindly refer to the six part article I wrote earlier about the domestic structure and the need for change. The links are given below.
