Is this the best RWC ever? With all the upsets, the minnows fighting their corner, some cracking try’s scored.

And what do you think of only 16, rather than 20 teams being in the 2011 RWC?

  1. Without a doubt 'welshchick' some stunning performances and especially from the minnows.

It would surely set the game back a few steps to reduce the number of teams from 20 to 16, perhaps after the round robin games the top 2 teams go into the playoffs as per normal and maybe 3rd and 4th of each pool going into a plate section ensuring most teams a chance at playing other pools (with of course it still being knockout for the plate).

It would be far better for the IRB to keep the minnows in this way thus giving them the exposure they need rather than dropping them all together.

In any case the IRB needs a big shake up!!

  2. Yes it is! The most competitive and a lot of upsets too! One would have thought that the Cup was destined to go down to the Southern Hemispherw what with the Kiwis; the Kangaroos; the Fijians; the Argentinians; now maybe SA?

  3. DEFINATELY!

  4. It has been a good one, with amazing matches like Wales-Fiji. I was really impressed by Fiji, much more than by Argentina for example.

20 teams was good, but still there is somehow the problem that some teams have started their tournament only in the quarter final, with the result we know. I don't know if there would be a way to avoid that.

I hope the rules will change sufficiently to remove the subjectivity linked to referees. See again yesterday evening, for SA-Argentina. Some decisions were surprising.

  5. I agree with you that this has been the best world cup ever some cracking games and a credit to the game. There have been no minnows and sides like Fiji and Tonga have frightened the best.If South Africa win and surely they must be favourites then Tonga was the side that frightened them most .If the tournament is limited to 16 teams entertaining rugby will be the looser

  6. As an Englishman, and talking with respect to the English performance, i preferred watching the last RWC, just because i wasn't pushed to a heart attack in the final 5 minutes of every game that matters. But being Underdogs and beating the over confident and over hyped favourites in each of our knock-out matches has definitely been a thrill. So with regard to the question of being the best, it is a matter of balancing the scales.

The future 16 is an awful idea, the small nations that made it in this year are what made the RWC interesting, effectively ruling them out, is to rule out possible surprises, like those of Argentina and Tonga.

  7. Yes, this the best world cup comp. ever played. It has showed the world that a tough contact sport can also be combined with respect and admiration for each other.I think that ALL the players and officials concerned should be congratulated on all their efforts. Teams? i think 20 is more preferable.

  8. Well, it was the best for my team, Los Pumas.

Like my captain, Agustín Pichot said: "If the next world cup is of only 16 teams, Rugby is dead. You must give lesser teams a chance"

  9. it is a great world cup! who would ever believe that argentina and fiji would progress to the knock out stages. the only thing im not so happy about is the refs standards. im am not new-zealander and would hate to have them in the final against south africa but they lost of a refs bad desicion. you can say new zealand do it all the time but everytime they do it its a refs bad desicion. south africa against fiji 5 high tackles were counted and replayed after the match no one got anything. south africa vs argentina 1 high tackle  in the dying moments of the game and it wasent even a swinging arm yellow card! the argentina try was contraversial. did you see the touch judge in the match wasent even sure what team to give the ball to and im worried the final gets a bad ref. it was nice to see teams like fiji and argentina getting throu! and the rugby was great but the refs were not great. 20 teams must be kept i think and give a chance to more teams to come out and show the world what they can do.

  10. i think that its been an amazing the pumas have been amazing team of the tournement i think that england has played well but dont deserve it im english weve had 4 years of awful playing pointless playing. some people would say its because of 4 years minus johnny but i think that he takeshis kicks and is well over rated what do u think???
