Question:

Is this the best way to train for running!!?

I plan on doing long and short distances now and then etc...but mainly this is my goal:

Run a 90 second lap. Then try to increase the distance and do 2 laps at 90 seconds each. Then 3. Then 4, so I'll have a 6 min mile.

Right now I can run a 75 second lap but I'm working on doing the above instead. Good/bad??/

Thanks!

  1. Its is since your increasing everytime your stamina and speed, but it depends on the lenght of the lap we are talking about here..

  2. i would do a ladder

    so do 1 lap then 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1 and keep your same pace

    that would help improve alot

make sure you warm up and cool down!!

    good luck!

  3. No not so.   Why so particular on speed and distance when you are just training to run not to compete.  Train to run, most important is to have enough breath to sustain your movement, run and to keep to rhyme or else you will soon run out of breath.  Another area is   to add weight to your leg just like learning kungfu (martial art). Heavier shoes or strap up with weight.  Speed training is for fastness.

  4. Eh, that really doesn't sound too effective.  You use this method as a checker to see the how faster you're getting, but I wouldn't use this as my main method of improving my mile time.

Run long distances, like three miles.  Try them all in one run, or break it up mile by mile, taking a quick breather and drink in between.  On occasion, try running each mile with a "race pace," timing yourself as you run.

After these long distance runs, do sprints.  Run 800s (two laps) for time, two or three times in a row.  Or run 400s (one lap) four times with little rest in between.

One idea is to try a pyramid.  Run a 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 700, 600, 500, and another 400, all at a good tempo.  This will really help you out.

    Good luck.

  5. 75 seconds around a track is not the best. now, in a mile, thats okay. but dont do that. the best way is to run 2,3,4, miles at a time. that way when u do 1mile,u can sprint early, thus have a better time.
