I don't believe most people understand how serious this stand off is. Its obvious that Russia has a goal of controlling a large part of the energy flow to Europe and the flow of grain, as well. With Europe currently importing approx 40% of their natural gas from Russia, there is the potential for Russia to hold Europe Energy Hostage. In addition, with their invasion of Georgia, they could be pulling NATO into a direct confrontation. This could get really messy.
