An analysis of the Partenopei’s past and present and an attempt to determine where the club is headed in the near future.
Just a few years back in the 2006-07 season, Napoli were not even a part of Serie A, and were fighting a battle for survival in the dark depths of Italian club football.
Astonishingly, the next season saw the Partenopei not just qualify for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926’s top flight, but also score an impressive half-century of points, overtaking many clubs to finish the season at the eighth spot. The season was not just an announcement that the
Azzurri are back in business, but also underlined that the club has not lost its time old knack of delivering surprises.
Although, the 2008-09 campaign saw the PArtenopei drop a few paces in the standings, they were again back with a bang in the next season reaching out to sixth position, qualifying for the Europa League, and making a loud and clear statement that they are
here to stay.
The 2009-10 season can rightly be called as the time when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 started to establish themselves as one of the top teams in Serie A, and also as one of the most entertaining sides in the world. In the 2010-11 campaign they went on to qualify for UEFA Champions
League, and started to earn a reputation for their attacking style of play. The season not only saw them as the major contenders for the title, but also saw them taking a place in the next year’s UEFA Champions League.
The 2011-12 season came with a lot of promise many of them shattered by their inconsistency, while others saw them take silverware for the first time in decades. The high point of the year was when they gave http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 a monumental run for their money in the
first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie, only to go down in the second-leg despite a two-goal lead.
The colossal failure against the Blues after an immense victory was the perfect embodiment of the way the Partenopei’s latest season in Serie A has gone through. There were high hopes of a perfect season, but not all of them came true. While they failed
to qualify for the next season’s European tournament, they were crowned the Champion of Coppa Italia, and the mixed results have left everyone with mixed feelings about their future.
With the rumours of their favourite stars http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edinson-Cavani-c11955 lingering along in the news, there are also some questions about the Partenopei’s future that are starting to get out in the air.
A wise man once said that the world is just like economies moving in circles.
Does Napoli’s failure to earn a spot in Champions League, combined with the probable departure of their stars signal the completion of the circle for the Azzurri, and is the club on his way back to where it came from?
Will the Azzurri be able to reach out to challenge the top guns of Italy for the Scudetto in the next season?
Is this the start of a new brighter era for the club or the call of doom?
In the next part of the feature, we will attempt to answer these questions in order to determine the future of fourth most popular outfit in all of Italy.
Stay tuned for all the answers.....
