  1. I assume window pc.

    1. click "start"-->"programs"-->"accessories"-->"... click "volume control".

    2. in the pop-up window, unchecked all "Mute all" box

    3. Master volume, Wave volume, CD player volume, bring the indicators to the center ( mid volume )

    4. launch window media player, play any mp3 song. If you hear the sound, the audio hardware is working else the audio hardware is broken

    5. Place a music CD into DVD tray, play it with window media player. If you hear the sound, your DVD drive is okay else the the drive is broken

    6.  Place the DVD disc into DVD tray, launch the DVD player, if no sound, very likely the DVD player driver is corrupted. Reinstall the DVD player should solve the problem

    7. If none of the above, check the DVD disc with home DVD player
