More doubt on cosmic climate link

18 April 2008

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7352667.stm

another set of scientists (Swedes this time) have compared actual changes in cosmic ray intensity with actual cloud cover and found no link. i stress, this is not modeling, but observation of real events.

given this new information, what is your estimate for the proportion of warming that can be attributed to the reduction in cosmic rays during times of high solar activity?

  1. Nothing will convince the conspiracy theorists or those who simply make up things (with no links to support their assertions) because they refuse to admit to their own ego that they were wrong.

The cosmic ray hypothesis was never more than a fringe idea which clearly couldn't stand up to scrutiny by other scientists.

  2. The cosmic ray theory was a desperate shot in the dark by politically driven "scientists" to cast doubt on AGW. No legitimate scientist believed it, anyways.

  3. <<given this new information, what is your estimate for>>

    you're kidding right?

you're asking the creationists to analyze science?

  4. Sorry there arguments are based on false assumptions.  For a reply:

  5. hey man whatever floats your boat

  6. I don't know about the last nail.  It's another strong piece of evidence to add to the pile which undermines the theory.  I added it to my discussion of GCRs in the link below.

    http://greenhome.huddler.com/wiki/global...

I find it amusing that the GCR theory is a very tenuous one with virtually no evidence supporting it (and a load undermining it).  It's basically a theory that says "this is a possible explanation", whereas the AGW theory has absolutely tons of evidence supporting it (i.e. "this is a possible explanation *and* here is all the supporting evidence").  But the 'skeptics' continue to cling to the GCR theory while simultaneously arguing that AGW is *just* a theory.

AGW and GCR are both theories, but one has loads of supporting evidence while the other has loads of undermining evidence.  A true skeptic would know which is the correct theory.

  7. If this is what you choose to believe, then your answer is yes.

However the Dutch Space Agency and the Russian Climate Studies Institute still say the Sun is the cause for all warming on Earth.

Like anything about global warming, it's just what or who you choose to follow.

  8. Never underestimate the complexity of climate. We've only just barely begun to understand it. The cosmic ray theory appears to be as trouble-bound as the anthropogenic greenhouse gas theory. Nevertheless, there's always a chance there's an unseen factor that could determine the whole thing.

I'll give the article a read when I get chance.
