Question:

Is this the "right" time for a rabbit to molt?

i have a 1 year old American Fuzzy Lop. This is the first time hes been losing this much fur.(he has shorter fur under all that loose fur). i was wondering if this is the right time to molt or if there is such thing as a right time.

    yes, rabbits shed their skin twice a year.with proper care,the old hair will be replaced immediately with the new hair.you can help them do this.feed them pineapple and pineapple juice when it is time for shedding.this is the best way to help shedding as it clears the blockage of hair in the rabbit's body.

    long-haired rabbits tend to shed more than short-haired ones.so you got to be careful.american fuzzy lop rabbits are long-haired rabbits and shedding gives them such a hard time.

    when it doubt that your rabbit isn't shedding normally,go to the vet.rabbits cannot spit out hairballs like cats do so shedding is a hard thing to do for rabbits.

  3. There really isn't a " Right time". Your rabbit will molt because of weather conditions, stress, time of year, etc.
