Is this the reason why people truly drink alcohol?

ok i think alcohol tastes gross, i'm 25 years old, i prefer rasberry juice. but when i see people drinking alcohol, do they really think alcohol tastes gross, and are only drinking it to be cool and to get drunk?

I drink my beer daily I enjoy it's sweet cool flavor..

I have an occasional hard liquor mixed drink like on a sunday morning Coffee Royal

Just because you think it is gross doesn't mean everyone does. I think milk and apple juice, among other beverages, are disgusting but I don't think that everyone else agrees with my assessment of them. Also, alcoholic beverages are a very broad category, have you truly tried enough to make such a blanket statement that alcohol tastes gross?

Most don't drink to be cool or get drunk

most drink for the buzz they get, or the flavor, which is an acquired taste for many.

You just say alcohol tastes gross, but thats not quite true.  alcohol itself doesn't have much taste, but a horrid burning sensation.  its what the alcohol is made from that gives it the flavor, or whats added to it after.  I don't personally like beer (made from grain), but i love hard cider (apples) and don't care for most wines.  I also like many mixxed drinks, including margaritas, hurricanes, mojitos, and daquaris.  You probably havn't given it much of a chance to either find something you like, or given you the buzz.

The only people who drink alcohol to be cool are immature kids in high school or college. Those same kids are often the ones drinking simply to get drunk too, but not always. As for the taste, to each his own. I love the taste of gin, beer, and wine but really can't stand whiskey, scotch and bourbon. If you don't like the taste of alcohol, simply don't drink it. If you want to catch a buzz sometime, then mix small amounts of rum or vodka with your raspberry juice and go from there.

What do you mean by alcohol?

I think beer and straight liquor is gross. However, I love Cherry Vodka Sours, Washington Apples, Undertows, s*x on the Beach, Butter Babies, Cape Cods... All of these are sweet, great tasting drinks. Most of them you can't taste the alcohol in them at all. Cherry Vodka Sour tastes like pink lemonade, Washington Apple just kind of taste like Cranberry juice with a hint of apple...

I like to drink on the weekends with friends to relax and have fun. Yes, I can have fun with out alcohol, but its just fun to go dancing with friends, have a few drinks, and hang out. I don't mind getting tipsy. I hardly ever get super drunk.

And I hardly think anyone over 21 is drinking to look cool. That's more of a high school thing I think... I know I don't drink to look cool, and none of my friends do...

you haven't experimented enough mate not all alcohol tastes the same. There are drinks that you need to become acustomed to before you can enjoy it like tequila. Various mixtures and shots are made that are some of the greatest tasting things on this planet. People don't 'drink to be cool', its a myth and why dont you put some vodka into that rasberry juice.

have you tried every kind of alcohol? do you mean like straight liquor? everyone has their own taste in drinks. what about wine, people will drink just a glass of wine with a meal because they go together, not to be cool. is that really how you look at the world? lighten up! and yes a lot of people drink just to get drunk but they also like the taste. beer drinkers usually don't like all kinds of beer. beer is kind of an acquired taste in my opinion.

anyways i guess to answer your question it depends on the person...
