Question:

Is this the right Firewire cable for my Sony DCR-HC28?

My girlfriend owns a Sony DCR-HC28 and it's not with me right now. But her laptop looks like it requires a 4-pin. If I look closely, I can see 4 dots, so I'm guessing that's it. So, a 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable should work, yes?

Also, what do I buy with that? Do I need a software so when I hook it up, it transfers it? I want it to be the best quality possible.

  2. you'll probably need a 4 to 6 pin fw lead. 4 pin goes in cam and 6 pin into pc.

  3. 4 pin firewire ports on PCs are unusual, but not unheard of (Sony use them) so yes, you'd use a 4 pin to 4 pin cable.  If you're in any doubt, check that the socket on the laptop is the same as the one on the camcorder - all MinDV camcorders use 4 pin.
