The question says name and describe the main characters.

1. Buck: is a 4 year old, Saint Bernard/Scotch shepherd mixed dog. He lives his first 4 years at Santa Clara Valley in Northern California, but then one day he is kidnapped. Buck is later sold off to two French-Canadian mail carriers and becomes a sled dog in Alaska and the Yukon. Buck is passed through many owners, but finally ends with

John Thorton, but after Thorton's death, since there is no longer a reason for him to be with the civilized world, he lives in the wild.

John Thorton: is Buck's final master and a gold prospector. Thorton saves Buck from being beaten to death by Buck's previous owner and Buck later repays him by saving his life and becoming a loyal partner to him. Thorton and Buck develop a loving man and dog relationship in the story that is so strong, that it is the only reason Buck is still connected to humanity

  1. I think that this is a really good description - although, if you are in fact planning on making this into a book or short story, include more about their personality.  Giving the reader information about a character's past is a good habit to pick up, but don't loose developing their personality while dwelling on the past.

  2. No, they are not too long.  You have done a good job with them so far.  You could include a little about Buck's temperament and tell a little about what John is like as a person, because a character sketch is supposed to tell what they are like, not just what they did.

  3. no, details are good

  4. That's really good, though you might want to change the last sentence of Buck's description to "Buck is kept by many owners and his last owner is John Thornton. After Thornton's death Buck lives in the wild, as there is no longer a reason for him to be with the civilized world."  Then the very last part of Thornton's should be "Thornton and Buck develop a loving man-and-dog relationship in the story that is so strong that it becomes Buck's only reason to stay connected to humanity."

    Good Luck!
