Is this too much for a begginer track runner?

I'm a 15 year old female and I decided to join track for the first time in my life this summer. So I just came from practice tonight and my legs and feet are killing me! I am starting to wonder if I'm doing too much for a beginner. Here is what we did today: 2 warm up laps, stretches, drills, 30 lunges, Indian style running (where person in back of line sprints to the front and so on while line still keeps running) for four laps (I could only do 2, so coach let me walk rest of it) after that we did three, 300 meter sprints, then four, 200 meter sprints. I could hardly do the sprinting at all. I had to practically jog the last 100 meters. Will I eventually get better or am I doing too much, I'm not in very good shape either. Thanks!

  1. Your not doing to much but you need to suck it up and get used to the practice because its just gonna get harder.

  2. You are training to hard as a beginning runner. I run on my high school team and I have been running since sixth grade.  You should start off a little easier and work your way up because if you keep on doing that you are going to get injured eventually but if you work your way up you will get better and stronger.

  3. no offense, but that really isnt  that much work. ur workouts will get harder as the season goes on. my 8th grade long distance crew ran about 4-5 miles everyday (im not exxagerating) u will get in shape as the season goes on, even tho u might think practice is pretty tough, u will get used to it. ur a sprinter right? jw

  4. Since this is the first time you have really run in a long time (the 3 laps you do 2 times a week really does nothing to help you) you will be in a good amount of pain in the following days, it will hurt to stand up, sit down and generally move. Dont worry this will go away, and the pain is just your muscles trying to recover from being worked. As you make it through more workouts you body will respond and adapt in like every way possible, but i wont go into detail, and after the pain goes away you will gradually get into shape and the workouts will become easier. Also just try all different types of events, It takes people some time to figure out what event they are good at/like. Oh and to help ur muscles recover take an ice bath...not a hot bath like the person above me said. This will also be pain full for the first 2 or 3 min. Just go to the store get a bunch of ice, fill ur bathtub or an clean empty big trashcan 1/2 full of ice then the rest cold water and sit in it, or stand if ur in the trashcan, for 10 to 15 min. Trust me this works, i run in college and we do it after every workout basically. You just have to make it through the first few min and then it gets better.

  5. well u just need to keep practicing and make sure u get rest.  eat a healthy diet and soak in a hot bath if ur sore.  i run track and im 13.  my sister does what i said and she went to state for high school track 3 years in a row.  just keep doing all those and u should be good.

  6. It'll get better in time.  You said that this is your first time doing track...so just give it time.  After you get used to it for a little while..you should be fine.  I

You maybe could have helped yourself out a bit before practice started by running a little bit every now and then.  But, it will get better.  Good luck.
