Is this too much......?

I swam 4 laps breastroke at full speed yesterday night, and when i got out, i could barely breathe and my chest hurt like ****! Yes, I'm out of shape right now.

i was out of breath and felt disoriented for the next 20 minutes or so.

Is this too much exercise?

How can I know how much is optimal?

  1. I guess that you have not done very much swimming for a while. Start slowly - just go at a comfortable speed that suits you. Do not try to race the clock or anyone else (but it is good to keep a note of how long it takes to do x number of lengths). Rest after every length at first.

    From there you can slowly build up your speed and the number of lengths you are doing as well as reducing how many rests you have and how long your rests are. Do not try to do too much at the start.
