  1. that is not true, whoever told you that is probably trying to trick you into eating gelatin! gelatin is animal bone!!

  2. I tried calling. I noted that the bigger gelatin companies said they found other ways. The quote from the JELL-O company was "The gelatin for our products is completely safe for consumption by vegans and vegetarians. It was actually due to them we conducted research to find ways to form a gelatin that held the same flavours, textures, and convience of our old product while also protecting animals. I assure you, you are completely true to your morals still by eating our product." Some smaller companies admitted to it but said they were working on it. (Apparently gelatin companies hold secrets.) One secretary at JELL-O was really offended when I asked and said that practice is so vulgar. So I assume JELL-O is clear otherwise she definitely wouldn't be working  there. I'm gonna go ahead and eat some JELL-O now though.

  3. Gelatin is an animal product.  Always has been and always will be.  It the name of a specific substance.  There are certainly plant-based thickeners like agar agar and pectin that behave much like gelatin does, but they are not called gelatin and will not be listed as such in an ingredient list.  If the ingredients say "gelatin," then there is dead animal in that food.  Your friend is mistaken.

  4. people say that to me too. i really don´t believe it, I´d guess you´d have to contanct the company. but till i was 100% sure it´s not boiled bones and skin, I wouldn´t take any chances. maybe your friend was just messing with you

  5. No.  It's not true.  You have to contact each company and ask them if their gelatin is derived from animals.  I would never eat anything with gelatin because I never know whether it is safe for me to eat.
