Since I still have 6 more names to pick I was thinking of some names that I liked and my friend is here helping me. To all moms have you ever not chose a name just because you knew someone who had it and you didn't like them?

My friend suggested these three names; Brooke and I said know just because there was a girl I knew named Brooke and had a really bad reputation. Then she suggested Haley and I said no because I used to watch a girl named that and she was a rotten child, same with Alyssa

Is that wrong to dislike a name because you know someone who is named that?

I mean I feel like I do that a lot!!

  1. No, it's fine. If you name your child after a person you don't like, you will think of that person every time you call them. I, for example, haven't liked the name Susan for a long time because of a mean school aide I had in grade-school.

  2. No it's not, i feel the same way about certain names, Try

    Bailey (Bay-lee)

    Alicia (Uh-lee-see-uh)

    Brooklyn (Brook-lyn)

    Sydney (after Sydney, Australia)

    Kara (after the Kara Sea)

    Sofia (after Sofia, Bulgaria)

Good luck with your 8 kids

  3. Nope its not wrong at all!!

I was going to be called Alexis but then just before i was born there was a woman on tv who my mum couldnt stand called Alexis so they changed it to Leigh.

You have to really love the name as your child is going to have it for the rest of their life :)

  4. Nothing wrong with that at all.  Who wants to name their child something that holds bad memories.  I think any time you associate a name with someone it is going to affect your thoughts of the name.

  5. No, that's normal. But if you really like the name I wouldn't let that get in your way. What about the names Lily Grace, Leah Hope, Hannah Joy, or Alexa Faith?

  6. No it's not wrong..when you name your child pick a name that you are completely comfortable with.

  7. I can't stand the name joe sue to a very hateful person I knew. I can deal with Joey or Joseph.

Sheryl was the neighborhood girl with a bad rep. and was a bully, so I'd never name a child that either, so your situation is probably not uncommon

  8. No - it happens all the time to pretty much everyone, I'd wager.  Names come with associations, and the bad ones - well, they can ruin the names.

It's one reason I could never, ever use Oscar (because all I can think about is the grouch!), and an absolute failure of a guy named Ian ruined that name for me (I'd previously liked it), too.  And why do you think nobody ever uses Adolf anymore?  It's because someone with that name did some terrible things, and now the associations have ruined said name.

It's not wrong to dislike a name that you have a bad personal association with - in fact, it's pretty much inescapable.  It's regrettable sometimes, sure, but it happens, and certainly not just to you.

  9. NO, it is not wrong to stay away from names that you associate with people you don't care for.

I went to kindergarten with a boy named Malcolm, he always had a runny nose and sucked his thumb. This poor child gave me the creeps when I was just 6 years old.

I am now almost 40 and met a wonderful man from Scotland who was everything I wanted in a husband. This mans name is Malcolm. I could not get the image of little Malcolm from kindergarten out of my head.

This man loves me enough to understand ( even though he thinks I'm a little crazy ) and goes by his middle name Patrick.

So I would say from my experience NO do not choose a name for your child that you do not have anything but good feelings about.

    Good Luck!

  10. Of course it's OK. If your aunt had a gorgeous name but she was a child molester, would you want your child's name to be a constant reminder of her?  Euuuwwwww!

Just remember, not only should YOU like the name, be sure it's a name that can grow with a child. Precious is exactly that for an infant but President Precious or even Grandma Precious sound ridiculous.

  11. i dont think its wrong it dosnt mean people have to know that that is the reason you dont like those names and 6 suggestions:

    Boys:

    Blaise

    Hayden

    Tatum

    Girls:

    Shailyn

    Alexis

    Maddie

middle names should be family names!!!!

  12. Don't worry! Everybody does that!

It is a shame that somebody you used to know has tarnished some lovely names but hey! There are plenty of names out their that our just as pretty without the memory of that disliked person.

It isn't wrong or mean. Its just human nature...

Good Luck with naming the baby and everything!

    Hope I Helped :)

  13. I think everyone does that!  There are certain perfectly nice names that I would never use as I know someone with that name that I don't like.
