Kay now my brother and I are debating about how if you leave the battery in the laptop in there when its already finished charging, the battery will either drain or something will happen. Is this true or perhaps not. I don't believe it.

  1. a battery can't hold a charge forever.

If the computer is for the most part plugged into the wall all the time WITH the battery in it... over time that battery will fail quicker.

some older laptops require the battery to run off the wall adapter.

newer laptops shouldn't pull power from a fully charged battery if its plugged into the wall, that would create an unnecessary step that would slowly ruin the battery.

  2. Well as a matter of fact I can say yes, I had an Hp Pavillion (z something 2000) that I bought 3 years and 2 months back and since I would leave the charger plugged in and the battery in it, I can say that yes it will drain it till the point were you have to replace the battery, I took it in today to bestbuy and the geek squad guys looked at me and said "how the h**l do you kill a battery and then worst of all have that battery drain the current when you're trying to just use the Ac adaptar?" I was one embarrassed person, although they were nice when I bought my new one (today aswell) and told me not to do it again, we laugh...... but I don't plan on making the same mistake.

  3. I have several batteries for my Dell.

I usually keep one that is not retaining full charge any more as the one in the machine at home.

For out and about I have the other fresher batteries.

Despite the protection circuits some batteries do eventually die despite all my attempts to keep them going.  [But they are 5 years old]

I do worry when the are on their last legs because of the potential fire risk.  The dying batteries sometimes make little hissing sounds.  But that's when I accept they are doomed.  I've had three die.

  4. old laptops continued to charge, newer ones have battery charge management and will not damage the battery.  Lenovo's won't even charge the battery to 100% most of the time... it will stop between 96 & 99 percent... sometimes going to 100... it varies the charge to prolong battery life.

  5. Nothing will happen, you would just waste a tiny bit of mains power cause the transformer continues using the same electricity weather you're using it or not. Though its best to unplug transformers if leaving the house as they sometimes but rarely overheat and catch fire.

  6. No the battery will only noticeably drain if the laptop is being used, or after a very long time of inactivity you might notice a decrease in it's power level.

For most people, they never have cause to remove their laptop battery.  For some users on the go alot, you might remove your battery if you have another one charged and ready to replace it with.  Other than that the only time I've removed my laptop battery was when I was going on a plane and security requested it.
