Is this true about platypuses?

is it true that the body temperature of a platypus falls rapidly when swimming, therefore, they return to their burrows to warm up??

  1. All animals that lives in the water has heat in their body. Usualy its like 80 to 95 degrees.


  2. probably if the water is cold enough, but generally exercise (aka swimming) will raise a mammal's body temp.  

    FYI, a platypus is a monotreme mammal, and the plural form of the word is Platypii.  

  3. In short, no.

    Explanation: Platypi have a naturally lower body temperature than most mammals (32 degrees Celsius rather than the average 37 degrees Celsius) so that their temperature doesn't drop greatly when the enter the water. Pretty clever really ;}
