The answerers here are correct, the highest note in "The Star Spangled-Banner" comes on "Free" in "The land of the free".  It's in the last line, but it's not the last note.  "And the home of the brave" comes after.

The anthem is a real challenge for inexperienced singers, because there is such a large range between it's lowest and highest notes.  A singer needs to be aware of his/her range, and make sure that they sing it in a key that they can handle.

Any piece of music can be performed in any key, meaning that all the notes can be moved up or down the same distance together.  The song will technically be the same, but will have a slightly different "feel" if sung in a different key.

I believe the "standard" key for the Star-Spangled Banner makes the high notes really high, and a challenge to sing.  The performer needs to work with the band to find the key they can handle.  Often this means starting very low, so that when the high notes come, the singer can reach them.

If proper preparation is not taken, if the right key is not chosen, the singer will be in some serious trouble on the "Land of the Free".

Actually, its not.  The "high" rendition is just performed by singers trying to do something different.  The real note is somewhere around middle C.

And, depending on the key in which the song was arranged, the note to which you are probably referring is singable by most trained vocalists.  "O'er the land of the FREE . . . "

In my experience, people don't know the words to the song more than not being able to sing the notes.

no!!! the highest note is and the land of the free!!!!(that's abou a high E on the piano) any girl could hit that note. the las note is actually low.
