Australian Govt Refugee Allowances vs.Aust Pensioner?

It is interesting that the Federal Government provides a Single Refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890.00

and each can also get an additional $580. 00 in Social Assistance,

so a total of $2,470.00 per month.

Family of 4 can receive $9,880.00 per month or yearly $118,685

A single Australian pensioner who, after contributing to the growth and development of Australia for 40 to 50 years,

receives only a monthly maximum of $1,012.00

in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement. (Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!)

I understand from my Cousin in Colorado that this is similar to what happens in America with Mexican refugees.

  1. Where are you getting these statistics from?

  2. Those statistics are from a hoax e-mail designed to stir up racist tension and hatred against asylum seekers

Once an asylum seeker is made a permanent resident they can apply for benefits at the same rate as any other Australian.

For example if they cant find a job they could apply for newstart allowance which is maximum  $437.10 every two weeks for a single person.

The old age pension is $546.80 every two weeks for a single person.

You can find out here about the various benefits they may apply fro (but are not guaranteed to get ) here

  3. Yes the reugees with psychological problems get looked after. The pension figure you have stated is correct, other figures sound  right but i don't have an actual source.

  4. ........perhaps
