I want to live and work in Ireland, preferably Dublin. I am American but my father and grandparents are from and were born in Ireland .... I heard that if your parents and or grandparents were irish citizens and it can be traced so that you can be an irish citizen as well if you want to live there. Is this true ? If not then how can I work and live in Ireland legitimately and legally? where should i start?? thanks

  1. If your father is Irish you can apply for dual citizenship ,when granted you would be entitled to work in Ireland hassle free

  2. Ireland offers Irish Citizenship by Descent.  If you qualify and can gather all of the necessary documentation, you can get dual citizenship.  With that, you can legally work in Ireland -- in fact, you could legally work anywhere in the European Union.

To find out exactly what documentation you need and how to apply, contact the Embassy of Ireland. I have added the website page that you need to read at the bottom of this posting.

From my reading of the information, since your father was born in Ireland, you are automatically given Irish citizenship.

    Good luck!
