I am brown skin and my boyfriend is darked skinned and he told me that all guys want them a light skinned girl because they are better than brown skin girls he said that light skinned girls are cleaner,neater,they dress nice and they are just prettier and he said that they had a glow but when he said that i got offended because i thought i was ugly because i am brown skinned but after he said all that i asked him why is he with me since light skinned girls are cleaner and etc. and he said because he saw something in me but the thing is he said that i am clean, neat and etc. but i still feel bad about what he said because after that he brought up how light skinned girls are better because they show alot of them in the rap videos and thats all people in the rap game talk about is red bones and that was true but i still feel bad because even though i am brown skinned i feel bad about myself because guys always say that even though i am brown skinned i am pretty and my boyfriend thinks that if i was lighter i would be a lot prettier but this is becoming a big issue in todays society because most men that i know think brown skin girls are ugly and i feel bad so can i get some feed back on this please thanks=)

my skin color is chocolate brown like hershey's milk chocolate or like a hershey's kiss, so i'm like you. and brown skin girl's aren't ugly, they're beautiful too. look at gabrielle union or kelly rowland or countless other beautiful people.

Well, if your boyfriend really believes that the color of your skin effects how clean and neat you are, he's SUPER IGNORANT.  I'm pretty light skinned myself, and I remember back in high school a lot of the girls didn't like me because of that.  Dark and light skinned people have been pitted against each other for a really long time.  But you shouldn't feel bad, because a lot of people don't feel that way.  Especially white people - a lot of them love chocolate brown women for some reason, lol, I guess because it's such a drastic change from what they're used to in their women.  But only an idiot thinks the color of your skin effects how clean and neat you are.  I also have seen the light skinned girls on TV and in the videos, but don't waste your time trying to figure out what the media is doing.  They're constantly up to no good, trying to perpetuate certain images onto young, impressionable minds like that.  They may feel like light skinned is better on TV, but TV also tells us that stick skinny is s**y too, and most of us know better than to believe that.  So, if I were you, I would smack that idiot boyfriend of yours and tell him if he DARES to disrespect your beauty again like that, that you will find yourself a nicer, richer man who loves your s**y skintone.  And I would stop caring about what you see on TV.  Every w***e on BET has a fat butt too, but everyone don't got one of those either.  Just accept it for what it is and keep on doin' you.

Definitely not true and such a stereotype. I hate to hear people trying to separate black women into categories. You should not feel ugly ever and he should feel ashamed. He seems shallow. You might want to dump him since he doesn't like you for you.If you are with a man who doesn't appreciate what he has right in front of him you might as well go find someone who does.
