  1. When you get a tattoo, depending on where you live, you usually can't donate blood until a year after receiving the tattoo.  They have you wait to be sure that you haven't contracted any infections, diseases, or viruses such as hepatitis.

  2. Yes, it's true.  A tattoo is essentially an open wound.  It's just a precautionary method, in case there is a potential infection in your blood.  No big deal.

  3. the risk of spreading infection, a tattoo is kind of like an open wound.

  4. Jen's right, you also cannot donate plasma.. and it's the same for piercings too.

  5. It depends on the state you are in. I have 11 tattoos. My most recent tattoo is less than 6 weeks old and I gave blood today. I have never been turned down to give blood over a tattoo. I live here in North Carolina were they have to have health inspections in Tattoo Parlors. You must have a permit surgical grade needles and tile on the floor.  Of course in Va you can not give blood for a year after getting one so it all depends on your state. Hope I helped.

  6. you have to wait one whole year to give blood after getting a tattoo. i actually asked the people i donate with last time i donated. its because of the ink. something about te ink might not be completely clean or something even if they use a brand new needle (make sure they do) so they said its because of the ink i for get the whole reason but that's the jist of it. 12 months later and your good to go.
