Is this true: when you open the door you cant

Im considerin taking channeling classes next month but my bf said I shouldnt bec. once you open the dooor to the other side you cant close it. Is this true?

Well, it's not like anyone has even shown that they can open any kind of "door" to "the other side".  But if  "the door" is anything like any door I know of, they close as well as they open, so don't worry about it. Just don't spend a lot of money on this.

its pretty much true, once you begin learning these types of things i dont think theres anyone who can fully close the door, i know of a few stories but no proof that they ever had the door open, just third hand stories

I really encourage you to use a Ouija board and invite spirits to come and visit you. They are cheap, only $20. Might be cheaper than taking the course.

The door is always open to the other side if you know how to access it. It doesn't close.  Pray for protection whenever you attempt to contact the other side.  Put a white light around you and pray that only good can come thru you.  Never...I repeat, Never mess with a Ouija board.  There are alot of evil entities out there.

As ever I'll present a psychological point of view.

When we mess with things like doors and portals, one way to look at it is we're really accessing things in our mind. An example from pop culture is the movie "Stir of Echoes", with Kevin Bacon and Kathlyn Erb. Basically a guy gets hypnotized and during the process he unlocked psychic abilities that made it so he could see a ghost that eventually lead him to her burial sight.

While I don't think you'll experience anything THAT dramatic, the affect of "opening door ways" can be profound in the mind. What you can do is end up opening up repressed memories - things that maybe you really don't need to remember. This can lead to odd feelings and behaviors that mimic spirit possession (seriously its a real phenomenon). Its not in that case you're really under spirit possession, its just you are unable to handle the emotional state of mind or even understand and recognize it.

A more metaphysical answer to your question would be that it depends on how you view "doors", "portals" and "vortexes" (bridges to other domains). Some believe (as in theoretically, not factually) that the universe is essentially made up of energy in different stages (solids vs gasses, for example. So with the power of the human mind one is able to manipulate energy and create bridges between different realms that would allow other forms of energy (including one's on consciousness) to go travel through these bridges.

As far as opening and closes these pathways again it depends on your point of view, possibly your religion or spiritual practices. The way a person projects and uses energy with be different for a person who practices reiki as apose to someone who works with the hermetic order of the golden dawn. A general rule of thumb is that it is easier to create doors than it is to close them. Doors that exist in nature are even harder to close. Then doors that have been opened by some other force (hypathetically demons for example) can be nearly impossible to close.

But it all depends on your point of view since with subjects like these we're dealing more with philosophy and mysticism rather than science.
