I heard that if your water breaks while you are laying down, it will gush. And if it breaks while you are standing up, it will trickle.

Is this accurate?

  1. I had mine broken both times by a nurse, I was laying down and it gushed out like a water fall.

  2. Nope, it can gush either way and it can trickle either way, every person is different.

  3. I heard that too.

If the babies head is engaged its supposed to act like a cork.

  4. I think it's different for everyone, but that's Exactly how it happened for me.  My first was a slow trickle while I was cleaning house, the second was a flood while I was sleeping, just what everyone wants at 5:30 in the morning, to soak up puddles all the way to the bathroom.

  5. My water was broken at the hospital both times and both times it was a tremendous gush. I think it depends if the membranes rupture completely or if they only tear. Tearing would be a trickle, rupturing would be a gush. Either way, you will know it when it happens!

  6. I had my water broke in the hospital, and it was a tremendous gush.  It felt like I was peeing all over the place.  If just a little bit of liquid is trickling down, chances are you've lost your mucous plug.

  7. Nope it isn't true, a water break is a gush but some woman experience a leak or their water will start to break but babies head is blocking the cervix so sometimes then they may feel a trickle but once they sit down usually the feel the flow of it.  I know my grandma was walking through a store when hers broke and water went all over the floor.

  8. Nope, it depends on the babies position.  If the baby is engaged, he/she acts as a stopper and slows down the water to a trickle or drip, standing or sitting.  If the baby isn't engaged, you'll gush no matter what your doing.

  9. mine was right the opposite, i was laying in bed when mine broke and it was trickling out and i could not stop it. i had no gush.
