I found an interesting old house to move into, and my mum's saying it could be spooky, creepy, etc. I love old houses. Is it just another way for her, to control my actions?

  1. Nah I just think it's personal choice.  She probably just wants to see you in a comfortable & clean environment rather than (perhaps through he own experience) deal with old stuff that could be more time consuming & expensive to maintain.  I know old doesn't mean dirty by any means but often as people get older they just like new stuff & the often airier, brighter environments that new designed places typically provide.

  2. She may not be aware of it, but ther is an element of control there.  She may deny it and tell you that personally she doesn't like it.  Believe it or not, I found two houses that I loved and my biggest mistake was taking my mother who said exactly the same thing so I didn't buy them.  I regret to this day not buying the second one.  Ask yourself what you want, and don't factor your mum into the equation at all.  If you love it, go for it!

  3. I don't think that your mother is trying to look out for you.  Sometimes it's very hard for them to let go.  Truthfully, old houses are spooky and creaky.  She could very well be right about his one.  I don't think she's trying to control your actions.  She just doesn't want you to make a wrong decision that you'll undoubtedly regret later.
