Question:

Is this typical for a gerbil pup's tail?

I recently recieved a small gerbil pup. He seems perfectly healthy and VERY active and playfull. Yet I noticed the very end of his tail stays curled-ish. He doesn't seems bothered by it when it's touched or handled, but I worry that the bone may have come unattached during play at his old owners; although, he's really too young for it to have healed that fast.

I love him to death & just want to make sure he's okay.

  1. I don't think that there is much to worry about. Gerbils injure their tails all the time. It may have been caught while running in an barred running wheel, if so it will heal shortly. The tail will never be as "straight" as it used to be but this will not affect the Gerbil in the slightest.

The only time I would start to get worried is if a wound appears on the tail, then I would take him to the Vet immediately.

So all in all, just keep a close eye on him but I'm sure he'll be fine. Give me an email if you have any other worries!

    Good luck!
