Question:

Is this usual for a gas Gorenje hob to spark if it gets wet?

My new Gorenje gas hob sparks for hours after a small amount of water has spilt on it. You know how easy it is for pasta to over spill??? The spark comes from the ignition spark that lights the gas when you press down on the switch. When the maintenance man called about the door hinge I asked him to fix the spark. He said it was something that that hob tended to do from time to time. This spark keeps cracking for hours and hours and then eventually stops. I find it most irritating and feel this can't be right for a maintenance man to walk out with out sorting it out. Any help or thoughts on this from someone who knows these things? I would be glad of any advice thanks.

  1. Foobix please get your facts correct before giving wrong advice

Ok ! go with the ******** who says he has 30 years experiance  in the gas industry cause i have only 40 years as a gas fitter therefore i must have given you the wrong advice but really i think he should retrain

  2. The fault is most likely to be with the micro switch under the control k**b,it is probably sticking which will cause the ignition circuit to remain on even after ignition.Water ingress into the spark generator would cause a short circuit, but would trip the RCD or blow a fuse as no doubt the appliance is earthed.

The only coarse of action is to call back the manufacturer and don't let them fob you off that this is normal. The spark generator only has a limited life span and constant use will most certainly shorten it.

I've to get my facts right?

Now now, touchy aren't we Mr Rex?

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion i suppose.
