If government ideology was a straight horizontal line, the left end would be communism and the right would be fascism.

a friend of mine explained it like that to me and i was wondering if it was correct

  1. The far right would be anarchy (no government)

  2. That is a flawed view of government ideology for many reasons.

Communism isn't a government ideology, its an economic ideology, and its opposite is capitalism.

Fascism is actually just a form of totalitarianism, which says the government should have complete control over all aspects of the nation.  The opposite is anarchy (no government).

It is odd that both extremes today are called "far right", while moderation is called "far left".

  3. That would be seriously flawed. The far left would be socialism as seen in the former U.S.S.R. Fascism would also be to the left as in the n**i party. They were liberal socialists by the way.  The correct term for those to the right side would be conservative. Small government and small taxes is a tenant of conservatism. High taxes big government and government control is a tenant of liberalism. Moderation is what you would see with the Libertarian party. Not with the far left.

  4. pretty much.  Can also go Monarchy on the right to anarchy on the right.

Conservatives in america are really liberal by world standarda because they really don't want anything to the right of fascism- corporations controlling the government and using budget power of government to subsidize the research and development of military weapons instead of consumer goods.
