So, I am trying to learn how to capture a video from a camcorder on Windows Movie Maker. It's a Canon, and I have the cord that came with the camcorder. Don't I have to get some kind of port that you buy at Best Buy or something in order to capture the video? Thanks.

  1. It's a Canon doesn't tell me much.

Is it miniDVD, miniDV, or HDD?

You really should READ your owner's manual. They are surprisingly informative and SPECIFIC to your camcorder instead of having a bunch of strangers guess at a solution.

  2. I am assuming that you are referring to the US cable. In that case you have to get a Firewire cable, and if your pc doesn't have a firewire port, you will have to buy a card whit this port.  The cable that comes with the camcorder if for transferring photos only. Then when you connect your camcorder to your pc with the firewire cable and open Windows Movie Maker you will click CAPTURE FROM VIDEO DEVICE. and that's it.
