Is this why Native Americans are not called Asian?

From what I understand, some Native Americans are the same race as Asians, the race known as Mongoloid/Mongolian, but the reason Native Americans are not called Asian is because they live in America and developed their own culture, correct? Some of us do look Asian.

  1. That is correct.  Asian and African are only common terms, probably used most often in PC America, for races.  Persians live in Asia and Egyptians and Libyans live in Africa.  That demonstrates why Asian or African aren't proper names for races.

  2. The terms "native" and "natal" pertain to birth, not to race. Anyone who has studied biology at the Master's level or beyond will tell you that it is impossible to determine race -- a brother and a sister in the same family may be of different "races". So, most scientists today will not consider "race" a scientifically valid term. Nativity, however, is pretty much absolute. Everyone was born SOMEWHERE. The place you were born is your "native" place. For example, your mother coudl be Australian and  your father could be Chinese but, if you were born in the US, you would be a native US citizen (or, if you like, a native American).

You seem to be speaking of the people born into Native American tribes in North and South America. Most of them probably were born in North or South America and are therefore Native Americans. It is also possible that the parents of many Native Americans may have been European, Asian, African, or Australian.

  3. The whole topic of race is very arguable but from a purely biological perspective race names are derived from physical attributes and not cultural.

  4. Because North America is not Asia!
