Diario de Yucatan (Merida, Yucatan) 8/15/08 (This item also appeared in a large number of other papers all across Mexico today)

- headline: “Mexico, the king of kidnappings”

In a study titled “Kidnapping is an explosive business” the Holland-based Pax Christi organization pointed out that between three and four kidnappings take place daily in Mexico and that Mexico occupies the first place for kidnappings among all countries in the world. The study was presented in Bogota, Colombia; it also advocates a policy on non-payment of ransoms nor concessions to the kidnappers.

The document points out that the strengthening of criminality associated with narcotraffic has influenced kidnappings, whose victims are mainly business leaders and the upper middle class. Data from Mexico’s Dep’t. of Justice reveals the 3 to 4 daily figure, which surpasses Ecuador’s 35 to 45 yearly and Venezuela’s, where there were 297 kidnappings in 2007.

  1. Why does everyone assume mexico is such a poor country. They are rich in natural resources, gold, ore, oil. What they are not willing to do is pay to raise your baby. You want health care you work, then it's provided. What the population is not willing to do is practice birth control and have only the number of children they themselves can support.

  2. Yes, definitely one of the reasons....

  3. That is one of the reasons but it also has to do with population explosion in the U.S, crime rates soaring, bigotry or small mindedness causes people to put up walls not only physical but mental.  There other social issues and reasons but that is just some.

  4. If the US was a better neighbor and helped Mexico financially (instead of blowing a trillion dollars on Iraq) then Mexico might be able to fix many of its social problems.

  5. Yea but they work for cheap so its ok if they maraud the country.

  6. no its not kidnapping. they are coming over here to the U.S. in droves and its they are killing their own people by bringing them here in loads of buses and backs of cars and stuff and charging a big price and people are dying and so to stop this that is why they are trying and people swim over here also and try and live here cause its land of freedom and they want that cause Mexico is not but full of corruption. its very sad over there and the govt isn't very nice to them that is why they are coming here. we need to stop the illigel immingration.

  7. Well, when you only make $1.00/hour and can't feed your children you will need something to eat. lol
