Those are lings to a play-pen type thing for my very small 4 month old pomeranian. Just a few questions about it.

Chose the one that you think best suits my situation, and then answer these questions, on the one that you chose.

1) I already have a crate, should i stick with the crate, and not buy this?

2) If i do get this should i put the crate inside this for the puppy to have somewhere to sleep?

3)Does it look sturdy to you?

4) Have you ever bought something like this for your puppy, if so, did it work well?

5) Do you think my puppy will still be able to use it when grown?? (again, he is a pomeranian, and at 4 months he still weighs about 3 pounds.

6) Do poms like to climb?

7) Do you think that this is big enough?

8) Do you think that i would have to purchase another one when he gets older?

9)Which one should i get, a, b, or c?

Thanks in advance.

Please check back, after you write, because i post additional comments, asking further detail or comments!

Thanks

  1. I would pick A.

    1) if you want your pup to have more room when unsupervised-then yes

    2) have your pup sleep in the crate. and INSIDE. this should be used for play time.

    3) definatley

    4) my dogs are too big for this to have ever worked

    5) yes, full grown he will still be able to use it

    6) I dont own a pom. but climbing could also be a trait of an individual dog-it depends on your dog

    7) it seems big enough to play in when you cannot watch him- but if you want to play with him- if possible, play with him outside of this b.c its a bit small for both of you

    8) nope, I do not think so

    9) A...easier to clean b/c its plastic

  2. I really don't think you need that.  If you want to confine him for his safety then just get a baby gate(cheaper).  So he'll be in a room playing with you.  Those play pen seems like a waste of money.

Edit to your edit:  Get the one with cover on the top if he is going to be unsupervised.

  3. I wouldn't bother with that. If he already has a confined room for when he's not crated then I fail to see why he would need a playpen. Even though the place you keep him has a door, with a baby gate you could leave the door open so he's not shut away from the rest of the place. More open concept. The rest of the time...if your not supervising he should be in his crate anyway.

  4. I like having both.  The crate is good for times the dog must be confined, and the X pen is great for travel.  X pens come in a variety of sizes; just make sure yours is high enough he won't jump out.  I have one that is about 4 feet tall for my Aussies, though I wouldn't leave them unattended in it.  One of them can jump like a deer over almost anything.  A crate is the ultimate "safe place" when you need to leave your dog unattended at home or in a hotel room.  The X pen gives more room to move around, potty, etc.  But it's also easier to steal a dog out of, easier to climb out or jump, so it's for times he can be supervised.

  5. I still use xpens for adult dogs for doggy gathering and for foster dogs.at home.Pen a may get chewed by a pup and along with pen b would need to be upgraded for an adult dog.Pen c looks like it would do the job.

  6. I like C personally the best.  If you have an area big enough for it, it would give your pom the most room while still being confined.

    1)  You should buy the pen and put the crate in it so he still has his "den"

    2)  see above =  ]

    3)  all of them work well and are sturdy, metal is easier to clean

    4)  yes and yes

    5)  yes he should be able to size wise, but hopefully you won't have to use it.  Hopefully he will be housetrained at some point.

    6)  poms aren't generally climbers but they do jump well.

    7)  if you get the third one, yes

    8)  again, if you get the third one it should be fine

    9)  already answered that

I have poms and one of my little guys was 4 lbs grown.  I had a 3 ft wide x 3ft long by 2 ft high wire cage for him with a hole cut in the side.  Attached to the hole was another smaller crate also with a hole cut in it and the smaller crate was his "bathroom" area with a puppy pad in it.  The larger area was where his bed and his toys and food were.  It worked very well and by the time he was 7 months old we were able to let him have free roam of the house if we were there.  But it was nice to have that setup when I had to leave him for several hours.  I knew he was safe and still had plenty of room.  Here is a picture of it http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm93/...

  7. I would get A, with the bottom panel for the floor, if I were to get it.

    1. I find that the crate is more than sufficient.

    2. I would keep the crate available to the puppy at all times.

    3. It looks like the sturdiest.

    4. I had one given to me for my dog. I found that the crate was sufficient. Being that when I was hope, spending time with puppy, I didn't want her quartered off away from me. If I am away, the crate helps with potty training, and keeping their tempted little teeth out of trouble. Also, I have found that all dogs I have had have been little little escape artists, so this was a bit of a laughable thought.

    5. It depends on how big your dog gets. I would HOPE that you wouldn't need to use it when your dog gets old, by learning the boundaries while a pup.

    6. Some do, just like humans.

    7. It would be sufficiently large.

    8. You may need to. I have seen a "double decker" where someone put one on top of another. I would just rather let my dog have the run of at least one room.

9, A, sturdiest, and easiest to maintain a clean environment.

  8. Actually, you need to keep training it in its kennel.

A pen would be a good idea, but, it still needs its kennel throughout its life.

    1. You NEED to stick with the crate.

    2. It doesn't really matter if you get this or not. But, she needs to be put in the kennel whenever you are not home, this will keep the pup, and your home, safe

    3. For a pom pup. Yes. It looks sturdy enough

    4. No, we have made a Puppy Pen long ago. And its homemade.

    5. Yes, I do. But, when you are home, you should keep him out of it, unless you are worried about him getting outside or something. Oh and as a side note, if your pom is 3 lbs at three months, then you are going to have a relativly large pom. Most likely with a healthy diet ending up at around 7-10 lbs.

    8. You may want to get a slightly bigger one. But, seeing as the only time it should be in it, is when you are not watching him, then, I think you might be fine

    9. I would pic B.
