Question:

Is this wrestling website being sexist?

About a week ago, I sent in a resume, to a wrestling website. I put in all of my credintials including I am going to college to get my degree in the English to become a journalist and that I also used to write for a paper. I also included that I felt like I could give there site more of an edge than other sites because I am a former state pageant queen and also female. And you never see females writing columns on wrestling sites. I told them that I was extremely familiar with the wrestling industry and that I have about once a month contact with Booker T. through email, and YES it's the real Booker. And that my cousin is an MMA wrestler and is also an Olympic wrestling Gold medalist. I told him I would have no problem whatsoever getting Booker and and Justin to do an interview for the site. BUT I have still not heard back from them. All of there staff is male so I am wondering if they might not want me, because I am female? How long do I wait for a reply? They also had three openings come up yesterday to do news reporting and I applied for that, but still nothing.... what do I do?

I am not giving out the name of the site because I don't want to seem like I am bashing on them.

  1. I'm sure they are going through hundreds, if not thousands, of applications.  Don't get discouraged.  Also, don't immediately jump to the sexist conclusion.  Its against the law for them to discriminate against you just because you are female, so I doubt they'll take that path.  Remember that name dropping can be seen as both a good thing and a bad thing.  Some potential employers like that you have connections and other are 'turned off' by it.  Just wait another week and give them a call (or email them) and politely inquire about your application and if they have any estimates on when they'll begin interviewing for the position.

  2. Only a week ago?  NO don't get discouraged, do you have any idea how many Applications and Resumes they have to wade through DAILY...not to mention ALOT of Junk Mail...Go ahead and Forward another copy and state in Italysis (large print) **Journalistic Resume' Attached**...Great Job for Putting yourself out there Girlie-Girl...I'm Proud of you!!!~~Aloha,Shell~~

  3. Most companies allow a certain amt. of time to pass so that they can collect a group of resume's, applications, etc.  Then they may need another few days just to sort through them all, and to select which people they want to interview.  It seems like you haven't waited long enough for them to complete this process.  I'd wait another few days, then maybe e-mail just to ask if the job is still open, and if so, that you'd just like to remind them of your application. Good luck.

  4. I think so, I am male and would actually like to see more females talk about these things.

  5. check to see if other people applied after you and got the job. if that happened and a female got the job then they prob arent sexist but if a male got the job and he looks less qualified then you they prob are sexist

  6. Maybe the boss is g*y or they are scared of girls! But they could be really busy and don't have time to answer you back!

  7. I hope it was not Wrestlezone. They are known for making up lies and half truths. One time they reported that Killer Kowalski had died, and when they realized it was not true they shut down the site and took down the link instead of fessing up and printing a retraction. They are a bunch of ******* who steal their info from other sites like Wrestling Observer and not give them credit.

  8. Yes they r.I m a male and i dont feel any thing wrong about working with or for a women(BTW my boss is female)

  9. I don't know that it's because you're a woman. It could be though.

I've had people get very uncomfortable around me because I'm a girl and I watch wrestling. Those same people might think the same of you. The probably have all male employees. I'd say find a number to the website and call it.

It usually takes two to three weeks for resumes to get through though in my experience.

  10. Just guessing here MMM. I would say not many if any of them actually have an English degree. But there is also a good chance that a pageant queen would be somewhat distracting on a staff full of males. So to answer your question I think it could be a little sexism and just fear of hiring someone more qualified than themselves. Too bad though. With all the young female fans a female correspondent might be more valuable then they realize.
