  1. Try the national alzheimer's website, the CMS or medicare website and your state department of health and family services. There will be specific codes for the building to be licensed in your state. These are to assure health and safety. It may include the types of locks, escape plans in an emergency, and minimum size for bedrooms. You will also have to prepare a statement of the type of client you intend to serve (wheelchair, ambulatory, end-stage). I live in WI. There is a state association for assisted living homes here. The requirements for the building are located on our states DHFS website. You should also take into consideration they other requirements for your care center as you design it. (Kitchen, laundry and activities for example).

  2. Here are a couple of sites that will help point you in the right direction for your pursuit:

The Best Friends Approach to Alzheimer's Care

    http://www.amazon.com/Best-Friends-Appro...

The National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners

    http://www.nccdp.org/

The legal and practical details will vary depending upon your location.
