Is thrombosis always serious? Does it always need treatment?

  1. It always has the possibility of becoming very serious. If the thrombosis travels into the heart, lungs, or brain, it can be fatal. If it stays in an arm or leg, it can cause pain and injury to the surrounding tissue, depending on what vessel it is in and how large the thrombosis. It always needs some sort of treatment, but the exact treatment depends again on how large it is, and where it is. Blood thinners are almost always given. Sometimes the patient is put on strict bed rest, and sometimes a filter is placed in a vein to catch the thrombosis.  


  2. there are many subtypes of thrombosis but all of them are serious they all could cause strokes or infarct which is pretty bad so yes it should be treated sooner then later the more you wait the greater the risk....
