  1. It totally depends on the product.  Some companies make things so mild that you could eat their shampoo and nothing bad would happen to you - some have more harsh chemicals.

    When things get landfilled, it's a while before the landfill is closed off. Rain pours on these things and leachate is created... basically the runoff from everything in the landfill.  Most leachate doesn't get into the environment, but some can.  Soaps create an increase in phosphates, which can really throw an ecosystem  out of whack.  That's just an example of what can happen.

    At least if it's something like shampoo that you rinse down the drain, it goes to your local water treatment plant, and some of the chemicals are neutralized. However, sludge from there also goes to the landfill, so from some perspectives, you're screwed either way.


  2. any kind of waste is bad, for the environment and for your pocket especially when there are people out there less fortunate, why don't you buy a smaller pack and donate the money you save to a charity.
