Is tijuana still dangerous?

i know that there was some crazy **** going on down there before (drug wars) but i haven't heard anything recently. is it still crazy down there? or have things calmed down? i'm thinking about going there on a saturday for a bachelor party.

Get real 60 people a month get shot in tijuana.  Just listen to Rick Roberts 760 KFMB am.  If you go down any where in Mexico you can be thrown in jail for anything they want to make up.  

Is tijuana dangerous?  No it's deadly and Americans should stay out of that rat hole.

A bunch of drunk , partying Americans is a open target - use good sense and be careful. They will smooze up to you and be a great drinkin' partner and when you least expect it - BAM !

OMG im tired of people that are not actually from tj and answer this questions. I have lived in tijuana for 18 years, i recently moved to the states so i have been crossing the border for a long time now. In my experience tj is as dangerous as any other place, the reason why alot of americans dont cross or find it dangerous is because they dont know how to behave in Tijauana and therefore get jacked.

Its easy to distinguish a tj mexican from any other race because there are not alot of races in tijuana besides mexican and chinese. Another american mistake is that they cross the border walking and they go into the most populated getto zones wich is Revolucion and Centro. This is where all the underage americans get drunk and do all there partying therefore get jacked again.

Dealing with cops over there is also different. translation if you dont speak spanish your basically fk.

In other words if you wanna go be a tourist, recommendations

1- look alive and always look around

2-keep your bags and wallets in a non reachable place

3-if you have a mexican friend that knows around GREAT

4-dont get drunk, make a big scene for all hobos to see and expect nothing to happen

5-dont cross fancy looking cars

very simple rules to follow, I have had the greatest years of my life over there and nothings has happened to me.

Act with sense and you should be fine

We have been robbed @ gunpoint, they took our car

Once we went to Burger King there for dinner.  The cops happened to be there eating their meals before going on a raid.  Funny part was that they were in full SWAT gear along with their HK G3s (guns) and helmets while they were eating.  Never in my life have I seen something like that.

Narco trafficker////cartel drug wars have been uglier than ever before.  Not just in TJ, but in Sinaloa and Mexico City, and a lot of border towns which are merchandise corridors for narcotic products.

It is anything but calm. In fact if anything it is getting worse. The Times in the UK just published an excellent article (see below) on the drug war and Tijuana in particular. I am glad I live in southern mexico, but we have our fair share of drug-related problems too.
