  1. Tiles are an excellent substrate, they do not run an impaction risk like sand, and are very easy to cleanup.

I use ceramic tiles for my leopard geckos, and vinyl tiles in my bearded dragon tanks. I found it a lot easier to clean up, and it heats up evenly as well (this for the leopard geckos).

I would stay away from sand while they are juveniles, and once they are older, if you do use sand, DO NOT use calcium sand. Play sand is one of the better options. I still use tile in my tanks, but have a "sand box" for mine to play in. This keeps them happy, and keeps me happy. I feed on the opposite end of the cages as to not risk them eating the sand.

Reptile Carpet can cause problems, especially with nails. They can get caught, and hurt the dragon. I do not recommend it, and find it more of a pain as you have to replace it. In the long run, it will cost more.

  2. I wouldn't suggest it. Try buying a carpet bedding specifically for reptiles. Easy cleanup and no hazard of eating it. =)

  3. I dont think so we have always used sand it is there natural enviroment I have heard of people using sheets of outdoor carpet and taking it out every day and hosing it off  I have seen rools of it at home depot I think you buy it by the yard.
