Is tolerance just whatever society deems to be politically correct?

For example, in public school we are not allowed to express anything that would be deemed as sexist or racist. If I were to ask my teachers why they would say it is because it is offensive to people. That seems reasonable enough.

But why is it when it comes to certain issues like homosexuality it perfectly fine to express support of it despite the fact that it is offensive to many people. Right now, tolerance to me seems to just be whatever the majority of people in society seem to agree on, and has nothing to do with actually respecting individual rights. What do you think?

  1. Yes, nowadays the camp of Political Correctness gets to decide what the meaning of Tolerance is. It used to be about race and handicaps; now it is about behaviors that the Bible and most reasonable people have deemed abominable.

It's starting to happen with bestiality, too.

  2. Short answer: YES!

And it's _government_ school, not "public"; it's the job of the government workers there to turn you into a good obedient citizen. Never forget that.
