  1. Jeff is a partner on just the 48 team, where as Tony will be a partner in the full team and not just one car.

  2. stewie made his choice and will be a car owner making the decisions et. al. or he wouldn't have done it.

As far as gibbs being owed anything because they "stuck with Tony through his attitude problem" etc,

      No.

Gibbs is the Mrs Robinson to the young punk a s s e s on his team now who are immensely talented but more attitude-challenged than Tony ever thought of being...he likes these pieces of work and it's worked out for him. Best of luck to all, except denny, a spoiled boy I want to see get a lesson from Kyle or Logano (also a spoiled boy).

  3. No, I'm pretty sure Tony will be calling the shots there. I think Tony is going to be a bad *** owner and PR guy for that organization. His name alone will bring in big bucks$$. The only thing I don't like about this deal is that Tony didn't honor his full contract with Joe Gibbs. Joe Gibbs racing stuck with Tony through the tough times Tony had when he had his attitude problems early in his career. Joe could have said hey I dont like what your doing and acting so get the heck out of here I dont want that kinda driver driving for me but Joe Gibbs didn't, he stuck with Tony. Tony feels he made the right choice and I have to go with that. He is loyal to Chevy and I admire that too. We will see in 2009.

    Later, Dave

  4. Jeff Gordon's arrangement as far as being Jimmie Johnson's car owner is different than how Tony's is going to be.

JG Motorsports (Jeff's Busch Series team in 2000) was merged into Hendrick Motorsports & became the #48 Lowe's team we know today, (in 2002). Jeff is listed as car owner, but Hendrick controls more of the % share than Jeff.

Essentially its a dual effort of JG Motorsports & Hendrick Motorsports but with Hendrick in the majority. Jeff has noted that he wanted to start his own team, but not go headlong into it just yet.

Tony's deal with Haas CNC though is involves him buying 50% of the team, hence renaming it to Stewart-Haas Racing. He will of course be one of its drivers with (reported) sponsor Office Depot & possibly Old Spice. A 2nd driver could be Ryan Newman with Jack Daniels as sponsor (reported). It is also reported that the team will not use the #66 & #70. The #14 has been brought up & a yet to be determined 2nd number.

(Coincidently JG Motorsports started its life as GEM (Gordon/Evernham Motorsports) but Ray left to start what is now the current GEM (Gillette Evernham Motorsports)

  5. Tony will be the main man at Stewart Haas.  He will probably end up owning the entire thing before too long.  Jeff owns a portion on Jimmie Johnsons team, in other words he gets a big slice of the profits, but makes no actuall decisions on that team, his partial ownership was done as a "gift" from Rick to all the success at Hendrick.  Jeff is the franchise at Hendrick, HMS is what it is today in large part to Jeff.  But ultimatly he makes no day to day decisions like Tony will be making.  Tony will be very much like Michael Waltrip and Robby Gordon.

  6. if jeff was partners and owned half of all of hms with hendrick, then it would be closer to what tony's deal sounds like. i think tony will have MUCH more say in all aspects of the operation at stewart haas than jeff has at hms.

  7. It's completely different, Jeff may own the #48, but it's usually Hendrick calling the shots. On the Tony's side, he's going to own half of the entire company. He'll be calling the shots at Stewart Haas Racing (Gene Haas is in jail). Tony has a lot more responsibility and people to take care of. Not to mention the fact that he's going to have to keep the sponsors happy.

  8. This will be completely different...in that Stewart will have at least 50% ownership of the team with the currently imprisoned Gene Haas (he will be released in mid-2009). It would be more akin to Michael Waltrip.

Come to think of it, I wonder if Tony Stewart will be looking to get out of driving in a few years and concentrate on developing his own team in Cup (as Harvick and Dale Jr. do in the NNS, except that they still drive full time in Cup).

  9. waaaaaaay different. Half a team vs half a car.
