Question:

Is too much water killing my bush? ?

I am a new home owner, with 3 bushes in front of my house. Two of the bushes are fine. My sump pump water comes out right at the root of one of the bushes. It has been quite wet this year where i live, and the pump water has made a good size hole under the bush in question. Until quite recently when i noticed the bush turning brown, i allowed water to pool under it. I have re-directed the water, but the bush still looks the same. Can anyone verify that the bush is brown from excess water? If so, is there anything i can do to save it? Thank You!!

  1. Yes, too much water can and will cause your bush to die. If you can move the water Little bit away from the bush then it will be great, but since you did that already then you should go to a garden shop and ask then about a special bush help thing. They should have something like that, it will help you bush a lot. But if that doesn't help either then just re-plant the bush somewhere else.

  2. Of cause your drowning it.

  3. It is completely possible the water you have pumped onto the soil has caused damage to the shrub but it may not be totally lost. Now that you have redirected the water – fill in the hole with soil and wait until a season has passed.

If it recovers, you will see new growth – if not, you will be able to snap a branch and if it is bone dry the shrub has died. If there is any green material under the bark – the shrub is still alive and will need time to recover – making new roots and sending out new growth. The recovery time will not take place overnight.

  4. your bush has probably had to much water, although you dont say what

bush it is. dont dig it up leave it and see whetherit begins to shoot out

new ones.  You could try mulching it, But Stay Away From That Water.
