Question:

Is touch rugby safe for oldsters to play?

I'm 65 and reasonably active. I've followed rugby union as a fan and spectator since playing for school, college & 'old boys' teams, which means the last time I played was in the late 1960s. I need & want to exercise. I've tried a gym & as a gym it was great, but as me I was totally bored. For people like me, and it's statistically impossible that I'm the only one, can touch rugby be a way of keeping fit or are we already way too old for this to be advisable? Come on, tell me what I want to hear, I promise I won't sue you if I break a leg or two!

  1. Of course. Think it's a paradox when I say this, rugby is a fairly safe sport when compared with others of the same type.

Touch rugby is one you'll allways enjoy with your buddies and family.

After all rugby is one of the "family / community" games in the world.

  2. perfectly safe.

make sure you have a good stretch before the game and don't forget to warm down after your done.

it's a great way to keep fit and stay active

  3. Plenty safe,as long as you are of reasonable fitness. There is no physical contact involved just running.Still fun though.

  4. It is a fantastic way to keep fit. Remember the usual exercise stuff - start slowly if you are out of shape, have a good stretch before AND after, drink lots of water, etc. You don't say where you are from, but touch rugby leagues have been in full swing in all big rugby playing centers.

Give it a go and enjoy.
