Question:

Is travel to Europe in late February worth it?

I'm looking to utilize some air miles I have earned and noticed that if I travel to Europe in late February I can get a discount. I would be traveling to London, Dublin, and Amsterdam.

I'll be able to save 30-40% of my miles if I do the trip within that time frame, which would allow enough miles for another trip in the future -- but at the same I don't want to make the trip if the weather is terrible and makes it less enjoyable to do activites while out there. Thanks in advance!

  1. if you can travel to Italy, Switzerland etc where you can go skiing would be the best bet. Otherwise, it's nice also to be in a city when it's cold and lots of snow!

  2. Absolutely!   As long as you are not too adverse to cold weather (just bundle up very well) travelling in Europe during winter months can be a joy because you don't have to battle hoards of tourists, long lines to points of interest, you usually get cheaper rates on travel,  lodging.   Another added bonus that some people forget about is that the local folk will most likely be more gracious and accomodating because they're not having to deal with the sometimes obnoxious tourists as much as they would during peak seasons.    As for weather, I've found that most of central-northern Europe experiences basically the same weather as we do here in the Northeastern US.    I'd say "go for it"!

One word of caution -  some points of interest in some cities may shut down for a while during winter months for refurbishing, so if there are particular points of interest you know you want to hit, better check thier websites for any closings.
