Question:

Is tropical rain salt water free?

Tropical Storm Fay has dropped large amounts of rain in eastern Florida. The moisture was up-loaded over the Caribbeans, from salt water. Will the rain have some salt in it, or would it be as clear as the rain coming down in the north-central where the moisture was picked up from inland waters?

  1. I think part of it is.

  2. For the most part, the precipitation is salt-free. When water evaporates, it takes very little salt with it. Most of the salt is simply left behind. This statement is proved by boiling salt water. The water evaporates, but the salt remains.

    I hope this helps.
