I am headed to New Orleans for vacation starting this Saturday (8/30) until Thursday (9/4). Do I need to be worried about the tropical storm heading that way?

I'd be worried, and I am, since I have a family member there.

  2. The first answer is correct and it's too early to tell where Gustav will go.

However, the storm is predicted to still be well south of the USA (including New Orleans) on Saturday.

  3. its not the storm you need to worry about its the 130mph winds and Water stagnation you need to worry about but go ahead have a greeeat vacation

  4. Its projected to come this way on about tuesday so its good to be prepared. But anything can happen. Hopefully it will not cause any major issues. Friday is the annivesary of Katrina so we really dont need any other reminders.

  5. Dammit. I'm going to be at Southern Decadence.... and the hurricane models aren't looking good :(

  6. I would steer clear from New Orleans if I were you, because just going by history, Katrina formed over the same area at almost exactly the same time as Gustav's forecasted to. If you're staying in New Orleans during all of next week, Gustav's potentially devastating track could take it right to New Orleans while you're there. However, I will agree that it is still at least a few days away, and the track could change at any time. Just stay tuned to the Weather Channel. Stay safe regardless of what you plan to do.

  7. I'd make sure I bring some SCUBA gear!

In case you were wondering, Gustav stands for "Staff of the Gods" so if I were you I'd steer clear of New Orleans since this looks like something that could finish what Katrina started!

  8. If you're hot enough, you can stay at my place to ride it out

  9. Hopefully not,  I'll be there for Southern Decadance.

  10. too early to tell

    wait a few days
