I am a 16 year old male and im now getting started dancing.. I want to do it because I've been inspired by the BEST SHOW EVER " so you think you can dance" season 4 is the best!!! ( for real, for real) but anyway, lol, im now trying to take up classes. I aspire to become a hip hop dancer. I know hip hop like that becasue I choreograph shows for my church and the rutines are NYCE. But, i also want to take up ballet, jazz, and modern/contemporary. Do you think that 2 years will be enough training to audition for the show?. Please tell me things I can do to get a head start in dancing, little things I can do to improve my skills, any where I can take classes in the Brooklyn area, and any advice!!. I wanted to take classes at Ailvin A. but im the one paying for the classes. ( mind you im not working) Long story. So im looking for a place with a resonable price. I aspire to become another joshua. ( The one on the show sytycd). So, please help me!!!!!!!!!!. { check out my other questions to}

  1. Sure it will. You must be 18 to audition. Work hard and you can do it!

  2. um.... no. but it doesnt matter, as long as you learn the choreography quickly nd be on the top 20, it doesnt matter. just keep a big grin nd be yourself bcuz now its up to america to vote.

  3. I was going to say that two years could be enough to prepare for something like SYTYCD - especially since you live in NYC - but then you threw in that bit about paying for classes. You really can't have it both ways. You need to be taking LOTS and LOTS of classes at the best places (like the Ailey School) in order to get decent in two years (I'm talking at least 20 hours a week). Sabra Johnson (winner of 3rd season) did this by immersing herself in dance training in Las Vegas after high school.

    I know that Steps and possibly Broadway Dance Center offer work-study positions, where you work (for free) in exchange for dance classes. You should look into that. The Ailey School also offers work-study scholarships, but you have to audition for those positions and be really good in ballet and modern dance.

    As a male dancer, the better you get, the more scholarship opportunities will open up for you.  So consider that whatever you pay for classes is really an investment that will eventually pay you back. Women dancers often invest far more in their dance educations than they will ever get back (financially).

    Nigel Lythgoe would be delighted to hear how his show has inspired another aspiring male dancer to study ballet, modern and jazz.

  4. iam sorry to tell you this but 2 years is not enough training but if you go to the so you think you can dance tryout it may be a good experience for you i been dancing for 12 years and iam still learning all the tricks they do look so cool but you have to think of how long they have been dancing and stuff like that  tip ... start getting in shape eat right practice everyday sign up for ballet classes i know your probably thinking i want to do hiphop not ballet but ballet i promise you will make you an all around better dancer even in hiphop wishing you lots of ill be watching so you can dance

  5. yes you can learn the basics and

    no you cant master it....z....

  6. I don`t live anywhere near you, so i am no help with a dance studio. You sound like dancing is your passion but I do not believe 2 years is enough training at all. Most of the dancers on that show have at least 8 years+ training. You are definitely gonna have to get a job to pay for it. good luck.

  7. two years is good to start but if you want to get even better then just don't stop learning new things
